Body Composition

Body Composition

Body composition refers to what the body is made of. Between muscle, fat, bone, water, and other connective tissues.

In fitness, people are usually tracking what percentage of the body is made up of muscle and what percentage of the body is made up of fat.

If you keep this in mind, there is the possibility of having two people with the same weight, but different body compositions. When this is the case,  you see the difference in their body shape.

If we understand this, we can see that the wording and focus of most of our goals change a bit. When people are trying to lose weight, their focus should in losing fat. And when people are trying to gain weight, they should focus on gaining muscle.

This is why exercise along with a well-balanced diet is the best strategy for improving your body composition.

Crash diets just focus on losing weight (fat and muscle), which is not good for most people. Mass gainers and just eating whatever to get “big” is also not a great strategy and now you can see why.
