Forest Bathing

Forest Bathing

Forest bathing is a Japanese practice of slow, mindful immersion in nature. You take in a slow, mindful walk through the woods and beyond the removal of stressful impacts, another benefit is the intake of alpha-pinene, a monoterpene that is released by trees.

The benefit of alpha-pinene is better breathing, as it acts as a bronchodilator as well as having antimicrobial properties, which is also in tea tree oil.

“The amounts of α-pinene in the subjects became several-fold higher after forest walking. The results indicate that monoterpenes in the atmosphere of conifer forests are transferred to and accumulate in subjects by inhalation while they are exposed to this type of environment.”

“Alpha-pinene is a natural organic compound and the main chemical responsible for the fresh, pine-like scent in pine trees, rosemary, and cannabis. Research suggests it offers powerful anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and bronchodilatory properties, while potentially supporting memory retention and alertness”
