5 Things That As A Personal Trainer, I Wish Everyone Knew
5 Things That As A Personal Trainer, I Wish Everyone Knew
1. You need consistency, not perfection.
It’s very common for people to miss a day or a week and say “Oh well, it didn’t work this time. I’ll start again next week or next month”. Life is always going to happen; you just need structure and a plan. One, two or three workouts missed won’t kill all your progress, if you stick with it, you will get the results.
2. Sleep is more important than you think.
Sleep is where the magic happens. When sleep is when your body recovers, and all the systems and energy are working towards healing it.
It is important to get between 6-8 hours of sleep and to have a proper sleep or nighttime routine. Try to go to bed around the same time every night, stay away from screens within an hour of going to sleep. Little things like that are going to help you have a better sleep and therefor recover and perform better.
3. There are 5 movements you should always be doing.
Stop trying to copy the newest trending exercise. Squat, deadlift, single leg, push and pull. These movements or some variation of them should be present in your training plan, always. Get better at those, see results, make your life easier.
4. Cardio is important but is not the holy grail for fat loss.
Cardio is great and is very important. It is crucial for cardiovascular health and an amazing tool for fat loss. But only doing hours and hours of cardio is not going to give you the “tone” look people are looking for. Cardio mixed with resistance training is the key. Resistance training will help you build muscle (the definition you see) and is also going to help you burn more calories. Cardio will help burn more calories, but it will also keep your heart healthy.
5. Everyone started somewhere
Everyone had their day 1. It is ok to feel overwhelmed and a bit lost in the gym or exercising if it is new for you. Ask for help, most people that know what they are doing don’t mind helping and are aware that they too started somewhere.
