Peaking for Competition

Peaking for Competition

Peaking for competition is by reducing the volume of training while maintaining intensity to maximize performance for a specific event.

A temporary state of training where physical and psychological elements are maximized, along with technical and tactical preparation.

Keys for peaking:

Tapering: reduction in the volume of training

Focus on recovery: recovering from stress to prepare for competition

Specificity: training mimics the demands of competition

Nutrition and hydration: optimized for an event. IE carb loading or hydrating properly and timing

Peaking is important for many reasons such as best performance, reduced overuse injuries and helping the athlete to focus on the competition.
