Importance Of Stretching And The Types Of Stretches
Importance of stretching and the types of stretches
There are many ways to stretch and each has benefits and some with more drawbacks than others. All stretches should be aimed toward2 improving your mobility, flexibility, and range of motion. Lessening chances of injury and maximizing muscular potential.
Static Stretching – The classic form of stretching. Done through holding a muscle at its end range of motion. There are active and passive forms of this.
PNF Stretching – is most frequently used by trained professionals and in therapy settings. It is a technique to relax the stretch reflex (Golgi tendon) to achieve a deeper stretch. It is done through a combination of static passive stretching and active stretching with load facilitated by a partner.
Dynamic Stretching – one of the most widely accepted and preferred ways to stretch and usually is a warm-up routine prior to sports or exercise. Dynamic stretching involves moving a joint through its full range of motion for a brief period of time.
Ballistic Stretching – it is a form of quick dynamic stretches pulsated at the end range of motion of a muscle. Usually part of a warm-up routine and done in conjunction with dynamic stretches.
